Dancers of IGaF in New York


ISABEL GOTZKOWSKY (Artistic Director) was born and raised in Germany. She holds a degree in movement science from Gymnastik Seminar Loheland and began her dance training at the Czurda Tanztheater in Nuernberg. Since coming to New York City in 1988, she has studied and performed with many artists, including Laurie DeVito and Jennifer Muller. In 1998 she formed Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends.

Isabel's choreography has been presented in venues and programs in New York including The Kitchen, Soundance, the Mulberry Street Theater, the Joyce SoHo Presents series, Dixon Place, University Settlement, the Hudson Dance Festival, the Downtown Arts Festival, the Battery Dance Festival, the remember project at Danspace Project, P.S. 122, Dance New Amsterdam, the Symphony Space Dance Sampler and The A.W.A.R.D. Show. Outside New York, Isabel's work has been performed in California, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Virginia. Internationally it has been presented in Germany at Internationaler Tanzwettbewerb (Hannover) and at Stadthallen Aurich and Aschaffenburg; in France at the Festival Off d'Avignon(Paris); in Canada at the fringe Festival of Independent Dance Artists (Toronto), the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, the Athabasca Country Fringe Festival, and the Theater Fringe Festival (Toronto); and in Mexico, Poland and Kenya. In 2007 Isabel was invited to be one of 33 renowned international choreographers chosen to create a short solo for "Mayim – Mayim: Miniatures of Remembrance" in Fuerth, Germany.

In addition to her work as artistic director of IGaF, Isabel continues to perform with other choreographers. Isabel has guest-performed with Jennifer Muller/The Works in New York, as well as during a seven-city tour through China in 2000. More recently, she has performed in works by BARKIN/SELISSEN PROJECT, Todd Courage, Fiona Marcotty, Sasha Soreff, Diane Vivona and Jon Zimmerman.

Isabel has taught workshops and master classes in Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and Canada and serves on the faculty of Dance New Amsterdam. She has also served on the faculties of Ballet Arts, Dance Forum and New Dance Group in New York City and Montclair State University in New Jersey. Isabel was an artist-in-residence at Danceloft in Rorschach, Switzerland, from 1996-2007, where she taught the Muller Technique, Pilates, Simonson Technique and her own modern style. During her time in Switzerland Isabel has created many new works for the dancers in the program in addition to setting IGaF repertory works on them and her work has been performed to critical acclaim in several cities in Switzerland. In 2006 Isabel and the company were in residency at James Madison University in Virginia where Isabel set work on the Virginia Repertory Company and since 2008 Isabel has been a visiting artist at Iwanson Dance Center in Munich, where she teaches annually and sets works on the dancers in the program.

Isabel was awarded a company residency at The Yard in Chilmark, MA in 2001 and an Artward Bound Artist Residency at The White Oak Plantation in Florida in 2004.

KATIE AGGEN attended the University of California, Santa Cruz where she received her BA in Community Studies with College Honors and Phi Beta Kappa. She studied jazz, tap, ballet and hip hop before she came to modern dance. Katie danced in Los Angeles with Carol Solomon Dance Company, and in San Francisco with Company Chaddick, Strong Current, EmSpace, Dance Elixir, Printz Dance Project and Dance Continuum SF. In New York, she has had the pleasure of dancing for Darcy Naganuma, Dixon Mena, Chris Ferris, Randy James and Sheri Celentano. In 2006, Katie performed Eye Candy with Maria Colaco Dance at the NYC Fringe Festival. Recently, she appeared as a guest artist for Shen Wei Dance Arts, and toured to Amsterdam and France with Jana Hicks and Marijke Eliasberg's The Next Stage Project. Currently, Katie dances with TNSP, VaBang, KDNY and the BARKIN/SELISSEN Project. Katie joined Isabel Gotzkowsky & Friends in June 2007. When not dancing, Katie can often be found pumping it up in the Pilates studio, as she's a fully certified instructor.

MASANORI ASAHARA a native of Japan, has been living and dancing in New York since 2004. He studied at Dance New Amsterdam. He has performed with Butoh Rockettes, Company SoGoNo, Duhon Dance, Erin Dudley, Janis Brenner & Dancers, Ko-Ryo Dance Theater, Leimay, Nathan Trice - Rituals, Sticky Mango Movement, Sasha Soreff Dance Company, Vissi Dance Theater and Wendy Osserman Dance Company. He is currently working Erin Dudley, Leimay and Sticky Mango Movement and joined Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends in 2008.

KYLA BARKIN Kyla Barkin, Co-Founder of BARKIN/SELISSEN PROJECT, has been an active artist and teacher in NYC since 1996. She studied with "La Mariquilla" at the Academia de Ballet Flamenco in Granada, Spain and, at age sixteen, attended Arizona State University as part of the Advanced Youth Program. A graduate of UCLA, and the recipient of the Jean Irwin Award for Talent, Merit, and Potential, she has toured, taught, and set work internationally. Performance, choreography, and teaching credits include institutions and venues such as The Juilliard School, NCSA, Wayne State University, USDAN Center for Performing Arts, Temple University, Adelphi, L.I.U.,The Merce Cunningham Theatre, Dance Space Center, Dixon Place, Center Stage, the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, DanceNOW at NYU’s Tisch, Grand Space, Silk City Arts Festival, HATCH at Jennifer Muller/The Works!, American Dance Guild, Flushing Town Hall, The Dance Gallery Festival, DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL, WAVE RISING SERIES, and COOL NY Festivals, SHARE, Chelsea Piers, The Choreographer’s Canvas, WestFest, O Beethoven in Ubatuba (Brazil), Las Playas Novillero in Nayarit (Mexico), Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, Sam Houston University as well as in Russia, Indonesia, Taiwan and more. Kyla is also a Fitness Professional, Medical Exercise Specialist, and a Yoga Teacher/Therapist since 1999. She is one of the original producers of The Moveable Feast, a pARTy on the move with an ever-changing menu (founded in 2006), has been published in DANCE Magazine, appeared on the Ricki Lake Show’s Couples Yoga Special, is a singer/songwriter, and was recently featured in GURHAN Magazine. She has been a long time member of Janis Brenner & Dancers and Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends as well as a former member of The Doug Elkins Dance Company, and The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, Tamar Rogoff Performance Projects, Naomi Goldberg Haas's Los Angeles Modern Dance and Ballet, and others. MARIE DOUESNARD was born in France where she started ballet at the age of 8. She graduated from the Conservatory of Nantes where she studied ballet, contemporary dance and performed with French companies. She moved to Paris to continue her studies in dance in the professional training program of “La Menagerie de Verre”.
She has been in New York since 2007 where she worked with Julian Barnett, Yung Lee Chen, Korhan Basaran and Jessica Morgan. She also is a member of Danscores by Ofelia Loret de Mola, Isabel Gotzkowsky and friends and most recently, Blackbird Dance Theater.

EMILY GAYESKI grew up in Rochester, NY. She graduated with a BFA from the North Carolina School of the Arts. Emily has danced with the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, bopi's black sheep, MacDuffie/Jones, the Mark Morris Dance Group, and is currently a member of Dusan Tynek Dance Theater and Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends (off and on since 2004). She has presented her own work at BAX and also appeared as a dancer in the film "Stay," by Marc Forster. She teaches Pilates at Bodytonic Pilates Gymnasium in Brooklyn, NY.

MAKI HATAE grew up in Kobe, Japan. She has a background in jazz and musical theater dance. She came to NY in 2002 and discovered modern dance. She has performed at Jacob's Pillow, Joyce Soho, the Ailey theater, Dance Theater Workshop, Flamboyan theater, White Wave John Ryan Theater, 'Downtown Dance Festival' at Battery Park, 'Asian Dance Festival' in Washington DC, among others. Her own work has presented at 'dancenow' at DTW, 'HATCH' series, green space and Dance New Amsterdam. She currently dances with Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends, Sunhwa Chung/Ko-Ryo dance theater, The Next Stage Project and Diane McCarthy. Besides dancing, she enjoys Yoga, travel and playing with babysitting kids. She is on the way to get a yoga certification. She also has teaching certificates in health and physical education, school nurse teacher and social studies in Japan.

STEPHANIE LANDOUER is from France where she graduated from the Université Catholique de l’Ouest with a degree in Modern Literature and in Science of Education, before she became a certified dance teacher, specializing in Jazz. In New York, Stephanie dances for IGaF and Diane McCarthy. She has also performed works by Sasha Spielvogel/Labyrinth Dance Theater, Jana Hicks and Marijke Eliasberg/The Next Stage Project, Sunhwa Chung/Ko-Ryo Dance Theater and Tino Seghal. Stephanie teaches contemporary and ballet. Teaching credits include Dance New Amsterdam (NYC), Peridance Center (NYC), Amarilys Academy of Dance Art (NJ), Art Plaza (BK)... She is also the Artistic Director of her brand new dance company, A Corps Perdu. Stephanie joined IGaF in 2008.

LOUIE MARIN began his training in San Jose, California, and then moved to Miami,Florida where he received his B.F.A. with High Honors from The University of Florida New World School of the Arts. In addition to his work with IGaF, Mr. Marin is a member of the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, Paskal Rekoert/Flexicurve, and Sasha Soreff Dance Theater. He has performed with the Martha Graham Ensemble, Amanda Selwyn Dance Theater, The Dance Now Ensemble, and Freddick Bratcher and Company. Mr. Marin is a certified Pilates Instructor, and teaches throughout NYC. Most recently, he taught Pilates at Bradeis Institute of Music and Art at Bradeis University in Waltham, MA; and was the Pilates instructor for NJ SummerDance at Kean University in Union, NJ. Mr. Marin joined IGaF in the beginning of 2011.

Born and raised in Boise, Idaho, SETH MINER grew up riding horses, playing bassoon and enjoying the rugged outdoors. His formal training in the arts began at the University of Idaho, where he pursued a double major in Vocal Performance and Mathematics. An interest in dance was sparked by a dance theatre class and, after attending a summer dance workshop at Boise State University, Seth transferred there to continue his studies. At BSU, he studied with Idaho Dance Theatre, while continuing to work on degrees in music and math. As a singer, Seth performed the role of Don Curzio in Mozart's “The Marriage of Figaro,” and the roles of Eddie and Rocky in Alder and Ross's musical “Damn Yankees.” A performing apprenticeship with IDT inspired him to pursue dance full-time at North Carolina School of the Arts, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance. In the fall of 2006, Seth moved to New York City to dance with Randy James Dance Works for their 2006-2007 season. Seth is currently performing with Lane & Co. and The Barkin/Selisson Project. He started working with Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends in 2008.

AARON SELISSEN is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin. In 2002, he received his B.F.A. in dance performance from Butler University. While attending school, he performed with Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre and Ballet Internationale. Following graduation, he joined David Hochoy's Dance Kaleidoscope of Indianapolis. During his time with Dance Kaleidoscope, he enjoyed annual residencies at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. In 2005, Mr. Selissen moved to NYC and was invited to dance with the Martha Graham Ensemble. He joined the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company in 2006. In 2008, he co-founded BARKIN/SELISSEN Project, a collaborative endeavor, with partner Kyla Barkin. In addition to Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends, Aaron can be seen dancing with Janis Brenner and Dancers, and BARKIN/SELISSEN Project. Aaron also teaches workshops and classes, is a singer/songwriter, guitarist and an independent fitness professional/yoga teacher. He joined IGaF in 2007 and is currently a member of the Limon Company.

SARAH SURBER has had the great pleasure of performing with Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends since 2006. She toured extensively with Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company from 2005-2010 and has danced with Randy James Dance Works, Dodge Dance Company and Alan Danielson Dance. She teaches for the Limon Institute at Peridance Capezio Center, NYC, and is an ABT® Certified Teacher in Primary to Level 7 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. Ms. Surber is a magna cum laude graduate of Bucknell University and is currently pursuing her Masters of Fine Arts from SUNY Purchase College.

JON ZIMMERMAN studied acting for two years at Virginia Tech, and then transferred to James Madison University, where he obtained a BS in Dance in 1994. Since moving to New York City in August of 1997, Jon has performed with Aviva Geismar, Randy James, and Guido Tuveri. He performed with The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company from 2000 - 2011 and also worked with fiona marcotty/beat upon beat and Sasha Soreff Dance Theater. Jon is a longtime company member of Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends and Isabel's creative partner. He participated in The Yard's Bessie Schonberg Choreographers and Dancers Residency on Martha’s Vineyard in 1999, where he worked with B.J. Sullivan and Chung-Fu Chang. Jon’s choreography has been presented at Dance Theater Workshop's “Fresh Tracks” Dance Now Downtown, New Dance Group Arts Center, The Evolving Arts Theatre, Dixon Place, Saint Michael's Church, and most recently at the Williamburgh Arts neXus. Jon teaches Pilates on Manhattan Upper West Side and one day hopes to be able to hurl himself at the ground...and miss...
